JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL. (WJPF) – An Illinois State Police Trooper has been injured in a crash on Interstate 57.
It happened just before 5:00 PM Sunday in Jefferson County.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the trooper was dispatched to milepost 80 of northbound 57 after a report of potholes.
A news release says the trooper located the potholes in the passing lane and activated his emergency lights and positioned his squad car as to stop other drivers from hitting the damaged road.
A driver, following another car in the passing lane, was unable to change lanes fast enough and hit the squad car.
The state trooper was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the second car was not injured.
