Illinois uncovers 1st new virus case outside Chicago area

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Illinois has reached 19. Gov. J.B. Pritzker says eight new COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday include the first ones diagnosed outside Cook County, which is home to Chicago.

Pritzker says officials are considering the fate of large gatherings, such as the popular St. Patrick’s Day celebration planned for this weekend in Chicago.

Dr. Ngozi Ezike, the state’s public health director says all the new cases have been isolated, either at home or in a hospital, and are doing well.
