Perry County Sheriff: “We will not be part of a police state”

PERRY COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis says he may not enforce any future aspects of Governor JB Pritzker’s stay at home order.

In a post to social media Tuesday night, Bareis says that his department “…will not be part of a police state, stop vehicles for no reason, stop the worship of God, or interfere with legal activities on personal property.”

Bareis goes on to say that he understands his views may affect his ability to stay in office, but he is willing to stand on those historic values.
