Senior Hot Shot: Kolby Brake

Kolby is a three sport athlete for the Hamilton County Foxes, participating in softball, basketball, and volleyball. Her softball season ended before it began this year but the first baseman has shown great hands on the defensive side of things and has excelled at the plate with natural power to back her up.

She excelled in basketball this year, being named the MVP of the Marion Tourney at the start of the season and the following week was an All-Tournament selection at the Lady Foxes Invite.  Kolby was named All-Conference in basketball, finishing her career with over 850 points.

In volleyball, Kolby played front row where her blocking skills helped the Foxes to a 22-win season.  She also collected quite a few kills being located close to the net.

“Kolby is an outstanding athlete who is very competitive. She is quiet who works hard and as excelled at the three sports she has played on four years of high school,” says Hamilton County Athletic Director Clint Winemiller. “She is very consistent in the sports she plays. She leads by example and she has helped her younger teammates by watching her work ethic.”

From Kolby Herself!

Q: What moment in your high school athletic career sticks out most to you?

A: I would say the moment that sticks out to me the most is from junior year basketball season. We made it to the Regional Championship at Vienna and we had to play Vienna. We fought hard and won. We had a lot of support from the community and we had a great student section.

Q: How have you and your teammates tried to keep in contact despite the coronavirus?

A: My teammates and I keep in touch over our many group chats and through social media. I do get to see a few of them every once in a while and that is pretty great.

Q: How has the coronavirus affected your view on sports?

A: The coronavirus has made me realize that my whole life consists of sports and outside of that, I don’t really do much.

Q: Once the pandemic is over with and life gets back to normal, what are you most looking forward to?

A: I am really looking forward to getting back on the field. I also want to just be able to go out with my friends and eat inside a restaurant without any rules or facemasks.

Q: What goals do you have for yourself post-graduation, sports-related or life-related?

A: This fall I am going to be attending Missouri Baptist University on a softball scholarship. I am going to be majoring in Exercise Science and I plan on becoming a Physical Therapist.
