Peaceful demonstrations held

Peaceful demonstrations were held overnight in Mt. Vernon and Marion.

At Times Square Mall in Mt. Vernon, several dozen people gathered to rally against racial prejudice. An organizer there said they will march every other day, except Friday and Saturday.

In Marion, a crowd estimated to be around 80 people congregated around the town square. Many protesters held signs, but there were no outbreaks of violence.

Meanwhile in Carbondale, police responded to multiple reports of burglaries, including two liquor stores. Several stores at University Mall were also burglarized. The burglaries occurred some time between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to police.
