CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has lifted the city’s 9 p.m. curfew.
Lightfoot on Sunday announced on Twitter the end of the curfew as city reopened subway stations in the city’s central commercial district, lowered bridges across the Chicago River and allowed bus service to resume in the area. Lightfoot imposed the curfew on May 30, after widespread looting and vandalism got underway following peaceful protests about the death in Minneapolis of George Floyd.
In her announcement, Lightfoot expressed gratitude to city residents for “working together to navigate this challenging time.”
