Pinckenyville Athletic Director Bob Waggoner announced on Twitter Wednesday night that the school is shutting down all extracurricular activities for the rest of the week after consulting with the Perry County Health Department and as the Panthers wait on COVID-19 test results.
The Panthers had not received any positive tests at that time but decided to take a cautious approach after Perry County neighbor Du Quoin paused their athletics Monday night for the week after a student-athlete was confirmed to have tested positive for the coronavirus.
“More than anything, we want our students to be back on campus and together,” said Waggoner. “We must err on the side of caution and keep everyone’s health and safety as our top priority.”
