Vehicle theft, unlawful restraint charges filed after Carbondale incident

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — One arrest has been made, another suspect has been identified after a person was kept inside their vehicle against their will in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale Police, at about 3:45 a.m. Monday officers pulled over the vehicle with the suspects and victim inside in the 1300 block of East Main Street.

As police talked to the victim, the suspects sped off and police gave chase which ended when the vehicle crashed near the intersection of South Wall and East Park Street. The suspects then got out of the vehicle and ran.

One suspect, Jaiir Crim,18, was caught. Police say a 17-year-old suspect has also been identified.

Crim has been charged with motor vehicle theft, unlawful restraint, obstructing a peace officer, and aggravated fleeing to elude. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
