State: COVID-19 has killed more than 10,000 Illinoisans

CHICAGO (AP) — More than 10,000 people in Illinois have died from COVID-19, including 97 deaths announced Thursday, according to the state’s Department of Public Health.

State health officials also announced 9,935 new confirmed cases of coronavirus. Overall, the state has reported 447,491 cases since the pandemic began.

In the past 24 hours, more than 86,000 tests have been reported and Illinois’ seven-day rate for positive tests is 9.1%.

Currently, nearly 4,000 people are being hospitalized for COVID-19 with 343 on ventilators.
