In the first ever SI Basketball Coaches Poll, which is dubbed the “Way-Too-Early” Poll with the high school basketball season over 6 months away, the Nashville Hornets are ranked #1 over all other Southern Illinois area teams. With over 15 voting coaches across the region, the Hornets were featured near the top of every voter’s poll and garnered 4 first place votes.
Six other teams received first place votes, including #2 Mt. Vernon, #3 Centralia, #6 Breese Central, #7 Massac County, #10 Breese Mater Dei, and unranked Mt. Carmel who just missed the cut by 6 points.
Harrisburg, who has struggled in recent years, was the biggest surprise coming in at #9 in the Way Too Early Poll.
