Choate Mental Health Center administrators charged with misconduct

JONESBORO, Ill. (WJPF) — Three Choate Mental Health Center administrators have been charged with official misconduct.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler Tripp says Bryant Davis, Teresa Smith, and Gary Goins are accused of violating Illinois Department of Human Services protocol by trying to block a state police investigation into allegations of a fellow employee abusing a resident. Teresa Smith is also charged with making false statements to police; she faces an additional charge of obstructing justice.

The three indictments are the latest in a recent string of charges brought against former and current employees of the mental health center. In total, eight current or former employees have been arrested on charges connected to their work at Choate.
