SIH suspends elective surgeries amid COVID-19 surge

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Due to the recent surge in new cases of COVID-19, SIH has once again suspended all elective procedures that require a postoperative admission, overnight stay, or extended stay recovery.

The restrictions are in place at both Memorial Hospital in Carbondale and the Herrin Hospital.

The healthcare system says the suspension of elective procedures is necessary to free up hospital resources for COVID-19 patients and the critically ill or injured.
