ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Southern Illinois University forward Abby Brockmeyer has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Brockmeyer moved the Salukis back to the top of The Valley standings with a pair of road wins last week, beating Bradley and Illinois State. Brockmeyer averaged 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, surpassing 1,000 career rebounds in the process. The award is Brockmeyer’s second Player of the Week honor of the season and third of her career.
On Friday against Bradley, Brockmeyer put up 14 points and grabbed 15 boards, her third-highest rebound total this season. On Sunday against Illinois State, Brockmeyer scored 20 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. The graduate forward shot 11-of-21 (52.4%) from the field for the week.
Brockmeyer currently leads the Valley in rebounding (10.2 per game), is second in field goal percentage (53.2%) and is third in scoring (16.2 points per game). Brockmeyer also leads the MVC in double-doubles with 12 and is the only Valley player averaging a double-double per game.
The Salukis return to Banterra Center on Thursday for a 6 p.m. matchup with Indiana State.
