Deputy struck, killed during car chase in Illinois

A sheriff’s deputy has died after a suspect spotted with a gun in a convenience store, struck him with a car while fleeing police.

The Illinois State Police say the Knox County sheriff’s deputy was setting up spike strips on a roadway in Henry County when he was struck Friday morning.

The suspect, 22 year old, Daylon Richardson from Granite City, was apprehended by Galesburg police after crashing into a nearby field.

Richardson is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated fleeing and eluding

Richardson is set for a preliminary hearing May 9th in Henry County Court. According to court records, he will be held without bond until then.
