Carbondale Community High School announced Lee Nailon, a 16 year professional – including 6 years in the NBA – as their next boys’ basketball coach, replacing Troy Barton. Here is the press release from the school:
“Carbondale Community High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Lee Nailon as Head Boys Basketball Coach for the 2022-2023 school year. Coach Nailon has over 16 years of experience as a professional basketball player including six seasons in the NBA. Coach Nailon graduated from South Bend Clay High School in South Bend, Indiana. While at South Bend Clay High School, he led his team to a 1994 state championship scoring 78 points in the state tournament.
Coach Nailon furthered his education and was a two-time all-conference collegiate basketball player at Texas Christian University in 1998 and 1999. In 1998, he was named WAC Player of the Year. In 1999, Coach Nailon was a second round NBA draft pick of the Charlotte Hornets. He also had stints with New Orleans, New York, Atlanta, Orlando, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and several overseas teams.
After his playing days, Coach Nailon and his wife started a catering company. He also founded the Fort Worth Funk TBT team, coaches AAU, trains athletes of all ages in the Dallas/Fort Worth area including assisting in the Big 3 and G-League’s Texas Legends organization, while also participating in the NBA Assistant Coaching Program. Coach Nailon and his wife, Gerianna, will be moving to Carbondale this summer. Gerianna is a Centralia, Illinois native and former division I basketball player as well.
