A Southern Illinois mayor and former junior college president has died.
Mike Dreith, 65, who was the current mayor of Fairfield, reportedly collapsed Saturday at his family cabin and died a short time later at an area hospital.
Dreith served as president of Frontier Community College in Fairfield, John A. Logan College in Carterville and Western Texas University.
He worked and managed several Illinois radio stations, including Fairfield until he was elected in 2021. He was in his first term as mayor.
