Tuesday, John A. Logan College outfielder Ben Higdon was named the Region XXIV and Great Rivers Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-GRAC and All-Region XXIV teams.
The freshman slugger batted .482/.569/.965 this season with 21 home runs, 29 doubles, two triples, and 95 runs batted in.
During last week’s Region XXIV Tournament, Higdon batted .533 with a pair of home runs and a pair of doubles. He drove in six runs during the week en route to Logan’s championship.
Higdon wasn’t the only Vol to receive postseason honors. Logan first baseman Vytas Valincius earned both All-GRAC and All-Region XXIV while right handed pitcher Drew Pestka earned All-GRAC and third baseman Jake Munroe earned All-Region XXIV honors.
Outfielder Tre Hondras won Region XXIV Gold Glove honors.
The Vols are at Indian Hills in Centerville, Iowa Wednesday for the Midwest District Tournament. They open the double-elimination tournament against #3 Wabash Valley Wednesday at Noon. The Vols were 1-2 against Wabash Valley earlier this season.
