Elevated E. coli levels temporarily close Carbondale’s Poplar Camp Beach

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Carbondale’s Poplar Camp Beach had to close over the weekend due to elevated levels of E. coli in the water.

On Saturday, the city said that the bacteria was the result of an increase in the geese population and an extended period of dry, warm weather.

The beach could reopen as soon as Monday, but an exact date/time has not been given.
