St. Louis Cardinals veteran right-handed pitcher Adam Wainwright has hit the injured list. Waino has been dealing with shoulder discomfort in recent weeks and Tuesday he gave up 7 runs, 4 of which were deemed “earned,” as well as 7 hits through 3 1/3 innings in a 15-2 loss to the Miami Marlins.
“I thought I was going to get over the hump,” Wainwright said when asked about the discomfort. “I’ve never had shoulder stuff before so it’s kind of new for me.”
Tuesday was Wainwright’s third consecutive outing of less than 4 innings.
The 41-year-old is 3-4 in the 2023 season with a 7.66 ERA. He is set to retire at the end of this season. He is two major league wins away from his 200th career win.
