Herrin’s David Lee Murphy to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJPF) – Herrin native David Lee Murphy is being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

A ceremony is planned for October 11 in Nashville. Other inductees this year include Keith Urban and Kix Brooks.

David Lee Murphy, 64, wrote and performed 1995’s “Dust on the Bottle.” The song went to number one on the Billboard country chart and went on to sell over one million copies.

Since then, Murphy has continued to write, primarily for other artists, and occasionally record.  In June of 2018, David Lee Murphy returned to the number one spot on Billboard’s country chart with “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” a song he co-wrote and performed as a duet with Kenny Chesney.

David Lee Murphy is the younger brother of River Radio Sports Director, Mike Murphy.
