Suspect captured after 5 hour manhunt

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – A man is in custody after a five hour manhunt in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 10:30 a.m. Monday at a home on Crenshaw Road where deputies served  Eric Gibbs, 37, with an order of protection. About 45 minutes later, an agitated Gibbs returned to the home with a gun.  He threatened several people and shot a vehicle before running off into the woods.

For the next five hours, deputies searched for Eric Gibbs, combing an area north of the Marion Pavilion to Crenshaw Road. He was eventually found with the help of a police dog.

Eric Gibbs is now facing a long list of charges including interference with reporting domestic violence, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of methamphetamine.
