Carbondale elementary school placed on lockdown Wednesday

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A report of a man with a gun caused a brief, precautionary lockdown of a Carbondale elementary school Wednesday.

Police say it started with a fight between several juveniles and adults at a home across the street from Parrish School.  Someone called 9-1-1, saying a person involved in the fight had a gun. That claim has not been substantiated. No gunshots were heard, and no gunshot injuries have been reported .

Out of an abundance of caution, Parrish School was put into a lockdown and officers stayed at the school until students were dismissed.
