MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) – Alexis Stallman, the woman accused of killing her ex-husband last summer at a construction site near Murphysboro, has pleaded guilty to murder charges.
The 42-year-old was expected to go on trial next month, but changed her plea Monday at a pretrial hearing.
The victim, Edward Stallman, was employed by I-DOT and working on a job at the intersection of Route 127 and Ava Road. On the morning of July 20, 2022, prosecutors say Alexis Stallman drove to her ex-husband’s worksite and the pair got into an argument. Witnesses say it was over child custody.
The fighting couple got into a vehicle where Alexis Stallman stabbed Edward Stallman in the chest. The vehicle crashed. Stallman died minutes later at a local hospital.
Police originally treated the scene as an vehicle accident, upgrading their investigation after hospital staff found the knife wound in Edward Stallman’s chest.
