CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Carbondale Police are investigating a report of a man impersonating a cop.
At about 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, CPD says a resident of an apartment in the 400 block of West Main Street noticed a man standing outside of their door on the porch. When the resident opened the door to see who it was, the man said they were a Carbondale police officer. He went on to say that he was calling for backup, but then drove away in a dark colored jeep with lights on the roof.
The person claiming to be a police officer is described as a roughly 50-year-old white man standing about 5’10” tall. He has gray hair, a gray beard, and was last seen wearing blue pants, a blue collared shirt, and a vest.
If you are ever uncertain about the identity of a person claiming to be a law enforcement officer, it’s advised you call the police yourself, explain the situation, and ask for verification.
