Carbondale Police find stolen gun during routine traffic stop

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A routine traffic stop Sunday in Carbondale led to the discovery of a stolen gun.

Carbondale Police say their officers pulled over Natly Johnson, 21, of Elizabethtown, in the 200 block of South Wall Street for having no license plate on the vehicle.  During the traffic stop, Johnson was found in possession of a gun that had been reported stolen. Carbondale Police believe the gun had been fired recently within city limits, but no injuries or property damage resulted.

Natly Johnson was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, improper display of registration, unlawful possession of a vehicle title, and endangering the life or health of a child.
