BROOKPORT, Ill. (WJPF) – The Brookport bridge has reopened following a crash late Friday night that damaged a section of guardrail.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the repairs happened faster than anticipated after engineers were able to find steel that matched the rail on the 95-year-old bridge. It was feared the piece would have to be fabricated, a process that would have taken days to complete.
The Brookport Bridge carries approximately 5,000 vehicles across the Ohio River each day.
