GULF SHORES, Ala. – Janie Samattiyadeekul posted a top 10 finish and the Saluki women finished ninth at the Bama Beach Bash Tuesday, March 19, in Gulf Shores, Ala. The tournament was shortened to just two rounds after Sunday’s first round was suspended due to thunderstorms.
As a team, the Salukis finished with a score of 613 (+37), finishing 28 strokes behind the tournament champion Sam Houston State, head coach Cindy Bodmer said.
“We beat some teams ranked much lower than us,” she said. “Disappointed that we didn’t finish better the coming down the stretch but it was great to be in position as low as 6th at one point in the tournament.”
Janie Samattiyadeekul tallied her third top-10 finish of the season, shooting 147 (+3) and tying her season-low of 71 in the second round. She tied for eighth out of 100 golfers.
Other individual scores:
- Kylee Vaughan, 155 (+11), Tied for 39th
- Kayla Sayyalinh, 155 (+11), Tied for 39th
- Allie Santos, 158 (+14), Tied for 57th
- Secilia Ho, 160 (+16), Tied for 67th
- Ella Overstreet, 167 (+23), 90th (Ind.)
Bodmer is happy with the improvements but wants to see more as conference championships loom.
“I hope we can improve on this performance and continue to improve to get ready in 4 weeks for MVC,” Bodmer said.
