SIU women’s basketball signs guard Kelowna Ngoyi from Montreal

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Women’s basketball head coach Kelly Bond-White has announced the signing of Kelowna Ngoyi, the first signee of a large 2024 recruiting class.

Ngoyi is a 5’10 guard who will be an incoming freshman from Montreal, Canada. She is a versatile, athletic guard, who is a three- level scorer. She can guard multiple positions with her size and quickness. She will be a great addition to our guard play.

Academically, Kelowna plans to study Computer Science Engineering at SIU. She is graduating from Saint Jean’s Prep School in the RSEQ league in Quebec.

Ngoyi’s school won the province (state) championships the last two seasons. Her senior year her team finished fourth in the nation. During her junior year her team finished second nationally. She was also one of 12 athletes selected in her class to represent her province for team Quebec.

“The first of our signees in the regular signing period, Kelowna called me after a road game this past season,” Bond-White said. “After setting me up and scaring me a little with her cryptic tone, she said ‘Coach, I completely see the vision!’ She loved how hard we competed and how we set up our players to accentuate their strengths. What I loved about Kelowna was her maturity beyond her years. She is a team first player that will fit the culture of our locker room. On the floor, explosive is what comes to mind. She has a motor on both ends, that will help create chaos defensively, and create mismatches offensively.”
