Saluki men’s golf hold steady, tied for eighth after day one at West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Southern Illinois men’s golf is tied for eighth after day one of competition at the NCAA Regionals competition in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Salukis (298, +10) must finish as one of the five low-scoring teams to advance to the finals in Carlsbad, Calif., and currently sit eight strokes behind fifth-place New Mexico (290).

Edouard Cereto and Dain Richie have both shot even par through round one and are tied for seventeenth in individual play. Head Coach Justin Fetcho was complimentary of them after round one’s action.

“Edouard and Dain played some solid rounds of golf today on a difficult course, he said.” “They kind of put the team on their back today, which is what you look for from your leaders.”

Here is where the other day one competitors sit:

Tuesday’s forecast calls for rainy weather, which impacts a course that is already playing tough.

“We just need to make sure that mentally we are out there controlling only what we can control,” Fetcho said. “We can’t control the weather, but we can control our attitudes and mindsets.”
