Xavier Johnson to play for Dallas Mavericks in Summer League

Former Saluki point guard Xavier Johnson was picked up by the Dallas Mavericks Thursday evening after the conclusion of the NBA Draft.  He will compete for a roster spot with the organization in the NBA’s Summer League.

Johnson burst onto the national scene this past season, leading the nation in scoring multiple times through the 2023-24 season.  In 32 games, Johnson averaged 22.2 points, which finished 5th in the nation.  He also averaged 6.1 assists, good enough for 18th in the nation.

The Dallas Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals this past season, eventually losing to the Boston Celtics in a 5-game series.

The NBA Summer League is an annual off-season event for all 30 NBA teams in Las Vegas.  It provides an opportunity for rookies, second-year players, and undrafted prospects to showcase their skills and potentially earn a training camp invite.

This year’s Summer League takes place from Friday, July 12 to Monday, July 22.
