Days-old infant, toddlers found near narcotics during traffic stop

HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Police say three children, including a 13-day-old infant, were passengers in the same car in which narcotics were found.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says Kortrell Johnson, 26, was initially pulled over June 20 for a traffic violation.  Three kids, ages 3 years, 2 years, and 13 days were found in the backseat.  One of the children, police say, was sitting just inches away from two hypodermic syringes, concealed inside of a diaper.  Unsealsed bags of cannabis, a single bag of 5 alprazolam (Xanax) pills, and a white powder that tested positive for meth were also found in the same car as the kids and police say a strong smell of cannabis was coming from the car.

Kortrell Johnson was taken to the Williamson County Jail.  His next court date is in August.  The kids were turned over the custody of their mother.
