Saluki Volleyball adds Neuberger and Segal to coaching staff

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Bailey Neuberger and Alan Segal have been named to the Southern Illinois University Women’s Volleyball staff as assistant coaches, head coach Ed Allen announced Wednesday.

Neuberger, a four-year member of the program as a student-athlete from 2019-2022, served as a graduate assistant during the 2023 season.

“She’s got exceptional character and a serving heart,” Allen said of Neuberger. “She’s done a great job of helping me build this program here, and hopefully we’ll take it to another level and do things we haven’t done this year.”

Segal joins the staff with nearly 40 years of volleyball coaching experience, with 25 at the collegiate level. He most recently served as an assistant coach for the indoor and beach volleyball teams at San Jose State. He previously held Division I coaching jobs at UAB, Eastern Illinois, and Tulane. His alma mater is California State University-Sacramento (now Sacramento State), from which he graduated with a degree in Recreation Administration in 1982.

“The opportunity to add someone who’s been around the collegiate game for the number of years that Alan has is one you don’t get very often,” Allen said. “He’s an excellent trainer and will be a huge asset for this program.”

Aside from coaching the sport, Segal has been an official on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour since 1988.

Neuberger and Segal will coach their first match Saturday, August 24, when the Salukis take on Saint Louis in an exhibition match.
