ENERGY, Ill. (WJPF) – Police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery and assault in Energy.
Officers responded at 11:35am on Thursday August 22nd, to the report near an apartment complex on Pine Street. The victim was identified as Serena Abbot of Marion.
Abbot was looking to rent an apartment when a black male wearing a mask approached her, revealed a handgun, demanded money, struck her in the face with the gun, then fled on foot.
Abbot was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Energy Police Department to speak with detectives.
Officers conducted searches and spoke to several witnesses. The investigation revealed it was likely a targeted action rather than a random act.
The incident is under investigation.
