MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – Saying that he has been asked to resign by county commissioners, Williamson County Supervisor of Assessments Alex Simpson, will walk out of the office for the last time Friday afternoon.
Simpson’s resignation comes after public outcry over recent property tax hikes in Williamson County. Some residents saw as much as a 23% increase in their tax bill from last year.
In his resignation letter, Simpson says he didn’t want to step down and that the problems with this tax cycle were there before he became supervisor of assessments.
