SIU’s Williams, Lewis earn Valley weekly honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois quarterback DJ Williams and wide receiver Keontez Lewis earned Missouri Valley Football Conference player-of-the-week honors, following breakout performances in the team’s 35-28 win over No. 12 Incarnate Word on Saturday.

A transfer from Murray State, Williams completed 19-of-27 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. He also led the team in rushing with 12 carries for 79 yards including a 28-yard TD run.

A Wisconsin transfer, Lewis caught eight passes for 148 yards and one touchdown to earn Newcomer of the Week honors. He also added another touchdown on a 57-yard end-around.

The Salukis piled up 543 yards of total offense in the contest – the most in a game since the last time the two teams met in San Antonio in 2022 (550 yards).

SIU hosts SEMO on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the annual War For The Wheel game.
