The Herrin Tigers announced the hire of Nathan Lieber, a Carterville native, to fill the open position of Head Football Coach on Tuesday morning at a special meeting of the Herrin Unit 4 School District board. The hire was approved by a unanimous vote.
Lieber, 27, graduated from Carterville High School in 2015. He has coached all over Illinois since with stints as an assistant at Tri-Valley, Casey-Westfield, and Lincoln.
Lieber takes over a Herrin program that went just 1-8 this past season under first-year head coach Hunter Shockley. The Tigers have not made the postseason nor posted a winning season since the 2018-19 season.
What they’re saying about Coach Lieber:
Herrin Athletic Director Stephanie Allen: “I’m so excited to welcome [Coach Lieber] to the athletic department! I cannot wait to see the positive impact he has on football and our students for years to come! He brings experience to the program and has a vision for Herrin Football.”
Tri-Valley Head Coach Josh Roop: “Nathan is a very talent, relationship-centered coach with a bright future as a head coach. He will pour his heart and soul into the program to make it successful on and off the field.”
