ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois hurler Alec Nigut has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the League office announced Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor for Nigut from The Valley.
Nigut pitched five no-hit innings in his first start of the 2025 campaign Saturday night in south Texas. The senior left-hander struck out six and allowed just two baserunners on a pair of walks in the start as he led the Salukis to a 7-2 win over Texas Rio Grande Valley.
The Des Moines, Iowa native is coming off a 2024 season where he finished 4-1 in nine starts for the Salukis. He struck out 41 batters in 57.1 innings on the mound.
