Stolen gun with defaced serial number found during traffic stop

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A 15-year-old was caught in possession of a stolen gun during a recent traffic stop.

At about 9:00 pm Saturday, Carbondale Police pulled over the vehicle near South Wall Street and East Campus Drive after the driver committed multiple traffic violations. The car was searched. Inside, police found about 40 grams of marijuana and a stolen gun with the serial number defaced.

A 15-year-old Murphysboro resident was arrested on multiple gun charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and defacing identification marks of a firearm. He’s been ordered held in a juvenile detention facility, pending a court hearing.

23-year-old Dijon Wyatt of Murphysboro was cited for possession of cannabis and released with a court date.
