CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A person is dead after a fire at a Carbondale public housing apartment building.
Around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters were called to the Marion Street Manor. Arriving at the scene, they found smoke coming from a first floor apartment.
The deceased was found inside of that burning apartment. They were carried out of the dwelling by firefighters. First aid was performed, but they died at the scene. Another person was treated and released from a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
