MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – There’s a confirmed case of the measles in southern Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said Wednesday the single patient is an unvaccinated adult residing in Marion. The case is the first to be reported in the state this year.
Between April 7 and 15, public health officials say there are eight known locations, all in Marion, where the measles patient interacted with the public. Those include Marion Walmart and Marion Kroger.
Measles typically starts with cold-like symptoms such as a fever, cough, and runny nose, followed by a rash a few days later. It is one of the most contagious viral infections, with an estimated 90% of unvaccinated people contracting the disease when exposed to an infected person.
