CARBONDALE, Ill. – Head coach Kelly Bond-White and the Southern Illinois University women’s basketball team have signed Jaeda Whitner, a 5-foot-5 guard originally from Mason City, Iowa.
Whitner spent the last three seasons at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as a member of the Islanders.
“A common theme in this class was to find multi-faceted players, but also players with proven track records of success,” Bond-White said. “Jaeda was a young lady we studied from a championship program, within a physical and athletic conference. She was still able to get her shot off at an efficiency that would have ranked fifth overall in three-point shooting in the Missouri Valley Conference last year.”
In 2024-25, Whitner shot .421 (45-of-107) from three-point range. The guard hit multiple three’s in 12 games, including against Texas A&M on Nov. 4.
Whitner and the Islanders won the Southland Conference Tournament in 2023-24 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program’s history. The Mason City, Iowa native played in all 32 games and led the team in three-point percentage (.343) during this run.
Over the course of her three-year career in Corpus Christi, Whitner played in 95 games and had a three-point percentage of .385.
“Jaeda’s departure from Texas A&M Corpus came after the retirement of one of the best coaches in our game, Royce Chadwick,” Bond-White said. “Hailing from Iowa, she was excited to get back to the Missouri Valley area to play her last season closer to home.”
Prior to Corpus Christi, Whitner spent one season at Iowa Lakes Community College, where she was an All-Region First-Team selection.
