In a 4-3 vote Thursday, SIU’s board of trustees decided not to reallocate state funding from the school’s Carbondale campus to its Edwardsville campus. One trustee abstained from voting.
The proposal to move an additional $5.1 million to the Edwardsville campus was made to reflect changes in the number of students enrolled at each location. It also included a plan to conduct a study to help officials eventually come up with a new formula to decide how much money each campus should get in the future.
After the vote, SIU-Edwardsville Chancellor Randy Pembrook said the study is still expected to take place, but that there is no timeline for when it could happen.
State Rep. Jay Hoffman, whose district includes SIU-E says he will introduce legislation that would split the two campuses
