SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois’ coronavirus death toll has topped 300.
Public health officials confirmed 33 additional deaths Monday from the illness caused by the virus. The state reported 1,006 new cases of the virus Monday, bringing overall total to 12,262.
Illinois is girding for its worst days in dealing with rising deaths and new infections.
Schools remain empty and the governor’s stay-at-home order remains in effect until April 30 to slow the virus’ spread.
The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, but for some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness and death.
