CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women’s basketball head coach Cindy Stein has announced the signing of junior transfer Janell Douvier (6-1, F, Wichita, Kan., Independent H.S.).
Douvier arrives at Southern Illinois University from NJCAA affiliate Pratt Community College. A two-time All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) selection, Douvier played in 59 games, which included 54 starts, in her two seasons and averaged 8.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
“Janell impressed me with her work ethic, killer jump shot and her athleticism,” head coach Cindy Stein said. “She is a high energy player with outstanding character. I am so excited for this great addition to our family and team.”
The Wichita, Kan. native scored in double figures in 24 of her 59 career games at Pratt C.C., which included two double-doubles and seven double-digit rebounding outputs. The six-foot-one forward helped the Beavers reach new heights in her two seasons. As a freshman, Douiver earned all-league honors after she averaged 7.9 points and 5.4 rebounds to lead the Panthers to their best record in program history. The following year, Douvier averaged 8.6 points and 6.4 rebounds to repeat as an all-league selection and led Pratt to the Region VI Tournament for the second-straight season.
Douvier showcased her versatility throughout her JUCO career, as she was one of only eight players in the KJCCC this past season to make 30-plus three-pointers and grab 175-plus rebounds. She averaged 6.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore, which were the 19th-most in the league.
Douvier played her high school ball at Wichita Independent High School in Wichita, Kan., where she earned All-State honors as a senior after she averaged 13.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. She earned back-to-back All-Central Plains League (CPL) honors and was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year in 2017.
Born and raised in Salzburg, Austria, Douvier’s father, Randy, played junior college basketball at Panama State and later transferred to St. Cloud State before going overseas to play professionally in Austria. Janell is the youngest of six kids, all of whom have now earned a college basketball scholarship to complete their degree. Her oldest brother, Bryce, plays overseas, most recently in Poland, and played collegiately for Northern Colorado and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Her two other brothers, Ryan and Randall, played for Baker University and Bryant and Stratton College, respectively, while Janell’s twin sisters, Jamy and Sandra, graduated from Missouri A&T in 2017 after two seasons with the Miners.
The junior forward joins a Saluki women’s basketball recruiting class that includes: guard Adrianna Katcher (Urbana, Iowa), guard Quierra Love (Edwardsville, Ill.), guard/forward Sydney Prochaska (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and guard Jeniah Thompson (Carterville, Ill.).
