CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — A team of student engineers at SIU has taken first place in a NASA contest.
The SIU students competed against teams from across the country to design a robot that could be used for mining on the moon.
The winning robot had to navigate while avoiding obstacles, dig through a layer of dust, then extract a layer of gravel beneath. The test is supposed to simulate extracting ice from beneath the surface of the moon.
