WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (WJPF) – A West Frankfort man faces a number of charges after he fought with police during a traffic stop.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says William Smith, 45, was pulled over Sunday in West City. They say he was driving on a suspended license and had multiple warrants out for his arrest.
Smith is accused of fighting with officers taking him into custody. After he was placed in handcuffs, officers found him in possession of a loaded gun.
William Smith was taken to the Franklin County jail on charges of driving on a suspended license, resisting a peace officer, possession of a weapon by a felon, and bringing or possessing contraband in a penal institution.
