SIU Men’s Golf win 2022 MVC Championships, Besard named Golfer of the Year

PADUCAH, Ky. — The Southern Illinois men’s golf team took first in a wire-to-wire victory at the Missouri Valley Conference championship for their third title in program history. SIU fired rounds of 295, 285, and 294 for a total 54 hole score of 874 (+10) over three-days at the par-72, 7,014 yard Country Club of Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky. The 17-stroke lead is the largest margin of victory for an MVC champ since 2015. The Salukis automatically advance to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship and will represent the conference in the NCAA Regionals, May 15-18.

Matthis Besard carded rounds of 71, 74, and 69 to finish second at two under par, one of only two players to break par over the 54-hole event. Besard was named MVC Golfer of the Year, the second player in program history to earn the honor, and was voted onto the All-Conference team.
