What to Watch Weekly
Helping you find what to watch in this wild world of streaming.
Each week WCIL will have some picks of the week for Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Paramount +, Discovery +, and Apple TV +
Netflix
“We Have a Ghost”
There are shades of Beetlejuice in We Have a Ghost, with the new residents of an aging home befriending Ernest, the ghost of the previous tenant (Stranger Things star David Harbour). But unlike in that 80s classic, the ghost here shows up on camera, which causes a commotion when footage of Ernest is uploaded to social media.
Hulu
“Bruiser”
In this coming-of-age movie, a chance encounter between 14-year-old Darious (Jalyn Hall) and Porter (Trevante Rhodes) after Darious gets in a fist fight with another boy brings up some long-buried family drama and sparks a major conflict between Porter and Darious’ father Malcolm (Shamier Anderson).
Amazon Prime
“The Consultant”
What’s the scariest word in corporate America? Ideate? Synergy? I’d say “consultant,” especialy if that’s embodied by Christoph Waltz. In Prime Video’s The Consultant, Waltz is mad with power, and he may be taking the notion of staff cuts a little too seriously.
Peacock
“Poker Face”
Natasha Lyonne stars in this mystery-of-the-week series that casts the Russian Doll actress as Charlie Cale, a woman with an innate ability to detect when someone is lying. As she travels around the country, she finds herself wrapped up in one case after another, with an ever-changing cast of characters around her.
Disney+
“Willow”
Ron Howard’s epic, 1988 fantasy film — based on a story by George Lucas — is revisited in this live-action series set several decades after the events of the movie. When a new, terrifying threat to the world emerges, it’s once again up to aspiring sorcerer Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) to lead a misfit team of heroes and save the day.
HBO Max
“His Dark Materials (Season 3)”
HBO’s impressive adaptation of Philip Pullman’s celebrated trilogy of fantasy novels returns for its third and final season, offering the concluding chapter in the story of a young girl’s adventure through multiple worlds — some like ours, some very different — as she searches her missing friend and her enigmatic father.
Discovery+
“Death By Fame”
Death by Fame goes behind the scenes to uncover the sinister side of fame and reveal the shocking true stories behind the rise, fall and murder of some of Hollywood’s most promising stars.
Apple TV+
“The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy”
Eugene Levy is the titular traveler in this documentary series that has the multitalented, Emmy-winning actor, writer, comedian, and producer stepping outside his comfort zone for a variety of globe-hopping adventures.
