Illinois State Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

 

The Illinois State Police continues to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred on Interstate 64 near Mount Vernon.

Tuesday, May 9th around 3:00am, an ISP Trooper stopped to assist a stranded motorist where he encountered 23 year old Brandon Griffin of Albuquerque, New Mexico and a female passenger.

A second ISP officer arrived for routine assistance. While on scene an altercation occurred during which gunfire was exchanged between Griffin and a responding officer. 

The ISP officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at a regional hospital. Griffin was pronounced deceased on scene. The other involved trooper and female passenger were both uninjured.

This investigation is open and ongoing.
