The Pinckneyville Board of Education approved the hire of Matt Laur as their next Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and the head coach of their boys’ basketball team on Wednesday night.  Laur is just the third coach to be hired at Pinckneyville in the past 49 years, succeeding Bob Waggoner who recently turned in his resignation.

Laur has been the head coach of the Freeburg boys’ basketball team since 2015.  He has accumulated a 129-103 record with the Midgets, including four 20-win seasons.

Laur also coached Steeleville for three seasons from 2004 to 2007.  He went 48-46 during that time, collecting a regional title in 2004 and tying a then school record 28 wins.

Laur has also cut his teeth in the college realm, serving as an assistant and associate head coach at SIU-Edwardsville from 2009-2013, Director of Basketball Operations at Ball State 2008-2009, and assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University 2007-2008.
